YouTube expands Ask YouTube AI search tool to more US desktop users
YouTube has expanded its conversational Ask YouTube AI search tool to more desktop users in the United States.

1. Expansion of AI Search
YouTube has expanded its "Ask YouTube" conversational search feature to signed-in users in the United States who are 13 years of age or older. Previously, the tool was restricted to YouTube Premium members aged 18 and older. The feature allows users to enter natural-language queries into the search bar to receive responses that integrate text, video clips, long-form videos, and Shorts. Users can also engage in follow-up questioning to refine their search results.
2. Availability and Functionality
The update, which took effect on July 6, is currently limited to desktop users conducting English-language searches. Supervised accounts and users who are not signed in remain excluded from the experience. YouTube has clarified that Ask YouTube is a supplemental search option rather than a replacement for the platform's traditional search engine. Users retain the ability to revert to standard video results by selecting the "All" filter or navigating back to the home page. The company intends to roll out the feature to additional devices, languages, and regions in the coming months.
3. Impact on Content Creators
Videos featured within Ask YouTube responses contribute to a creator's total view metrics and count toward eligibility for the YouTube Partner Program. To increase the likelihood of their content appearing in these AI-generated responses, YouTube advises creators to produce high-quality, unique content that utilizes clear chapters and descriptive titles. These elements assist the platform's systems in accurately matching specific video segments to user inquiries.
