TikTok tests new AI tool to help creators identify and report unauthorized deepfakes
TikTok is testing a new AI-powered tool that allows creators to identify and report unauthorized deepfakes using their likeness.

1. New AI Detection Tool
TikTok has begun testing an opt-in tool designed to identify AI-generated content that uses a creator’s likeness. The feature, which is currently being tested with a select group of creators in the United States, allows users to scan the platform for unauthorized deepfakes and report them to the company.
2. Verification Process
To participate in the test, creators must verify their identity through a third-party service called Jumio. This process requires a real-time selfie scan and an official ID check. According to TikTok spokesperson Zachary Kizer, the company does not retain these ID documents. Facial information collected during the process is used exclusively for likeness matching and identifying potential unauthorized use of a creator's image.
3. Functionality and Context
Once a creator is verified, the system scans for content that may be using their likeness without permission. Creators can then review the findings and choose to report specific posts or accounts. This development follows similar initiatives by other platforms, such as YouTube, which recently expanded its own AI likeness detection tool to all adult users.
