Roblox introduces AI-powered game creation tool for mobile devices
Roblox is launching a new AI-powered tool that enables users to generate games on mobile devices through text prompts, with public alpha testing beginning in New Zealand on July 28.

1. New AI-Powered Game Creation
Roblox has announced a new feature called "Build," which allows users to generate basic games on mobile devices using text prompts. By describing a concept, such as a "cozy adventure game," users can create an initial game environment, including characters, visuals, and sound, without needing programming experience. The feature is powered by a combination of open-source and proprietary Roblox AI models.
2. Testing and Availability
The Build feature is scheduled to enter public alpha testing on July 28. Initial access will be limited to users in New Zealand who are at least nine years old and have verified their age. Users aged 16 and older will be permitted to publish their AI-generated creations to a global audience. The company plans to offer both a free, basic version of the tool and paid options.
3. Industry Concerns and Platform Strategy
The introduction of AI-generated content has sparked debate regarding the potential for an influx of low-quality, repetitive games and increased competition for human developers. In response to these concerns, Roblox stated that it will rely on its existing discovery systems to rank games based on player retention. The company emphasized that games failing to attract players will not receive prominent placement on the platform. Additionally, Roblox is developing further AI tools, including agents for playtesting and analytics, while simultaneously discontinuing its "Roblox Connect" video-calling feature.
