Google to enable Local Inventory Ads by default in Shopping campaigns starting August 2026
Google will enable Local Inventory Ads by default in all Shopping campaigns starting August 31, 2026, requiring advertisers to manage inventory settings through a new filter.

1. Changes to Local Inventory Ads
Google has announced updates to how Local Inventory Ads (LIAs) function within Standard Shopping campaigns. Starting August 31, 2026, LIAs will be enabled by default for all Shopping campaigns linked to Merchant Center accounts that have the Local Inventory Ads add-on active. This change is intended to consolidate campaign management and remove redundant settings that previously controlled local inventory.
2. New Inventory Filter
As part of this transition, Google is removing the legacy "Local products" setting found under the "Other settings" menu. Advertisers will instead be required to manage their local inventory through a new Inventory filter. This filter allows for campaign configuration based on specific channels, enabling users to select either "Local" or "Online" inventory settings.
3. Action Required for Advertisers
Advertisers who maintain separate budgets for online and in-store inventory are encouraged to review their campaign configurations before the August 31 deadline. Failure to update these settings could result in unintended changes to campaign behavior. By adjusting the new Inventory filter to specify the desired channel, advertisers can maintain control over their local and online advertising strategies under the updated system.
