Agility Robotics opens 60,000-square-foot training facility in Fremont near Tesla manufacturing site
Agility Robotics has opened a 60,000-square-foot training facility in Fremont to accelerate the deployment of its commercial humanoid robots as it prepares for a public market debut.

1. New Training Facility
Agility Robotics is opening a 60,000-square-foot training facility in Fremont, California. The location places the company in close proximity to Tesla’s manufacturing operations, where Tesla is expected to begin production of its Optimus humanoid robot later this year. Agility Robotics intends to use the new site to train its Digit robots in environments that simulate real-world conditions, helping to accelerate deployments for its customers.
2. Commercial Progress and Strategy
Unlike some competitors, Agility Robotics has already commercialized its technology, with Digit robots currently performing tasks such as moving totes and bins for companies including Amazon, GXO, Schaeffler, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. The company reports having secured $300 million in contract orders. While Agility is integrating generative AI to help scale robot programming and capabilities, leadership emphasizes a practical approach to autonomy, noting that safety-critical systems must remain separate from generative AI models.
3. Future Outlook
Agility Robotics is currently undergoing a reverse-merger expected to make it the first pure-play humanoid robot company on the public markets later this year. The company is focusing its efforts on manufacturing and logistics rather than consumer in-home use, citing safety concerns. The upcoming version 5 of the Digit robot, scheduled for release this fall, is expected to feature enhanced human-sensing capabilities, allowing it to operate outside of restricted, robot-only zones.
